Artful-Dodger's Fish Links:
Aquarium Information, Care & Maintenance
Bulletin Board and Forum Sites
- ReefCentral
Bulletin board site. This is the one where I
spend my time. With over 60,000 members, answers to questions are
quickly available...they don't always agree, but discussions are almost
uniformly polite and considered. Registration is free, but the
$24 for an annual membership is worth every penny from the great
advice. Most of the stupid mistakes I've made so far in this
hobby were already answered in the forum archives (if I'd only
known...) The Rocky Mountain Reef Club hosts its site here as a
forum. Also the home of the monthly Reefkeeping Magazine.
- reefs.org
Bulletin board site. Almost as many members, but still not as
active as ReefCentral, but worth the visit
for Advanced Aquarist Online Magazine and the monthly Powerbuys
specials.
- The Reefers Inn
Bulletin board and forum. Very small participation when compated
to ReefCentral or reefs.org.
- Reef Aquarium Guide
Another bulletin board and forum site.
- Reefland
bulletin board and forums
Magazines, publishers, etc.
- Coral
Magazine Very cool, new (to the U.S.) magazine $6/copy
and worth every penny. Very in-depth treatment of one topic per
issue. For example, issue #1 was primarily dedicated to
seahorses. Even though I do not intend to try to keep seahorses,
I found the many articles and photos fascinating. Absolutely
beautiful photography throughout. Best thing is that only about
20% of the mag is adverts as opposed to the 70% in FAMA and similar
popular magazines. I was turned on to this publication by the
good folks at Neptune's--thanks!--and will continue to buy each issue
from them...the only shop in Denver that I could find that was stocking
issue #1 when it came out...now I can't wait for #3~ Apparently
this magazine is the English-language cousin to Koralle, a
long-standing German-language marine aquarium publication.
Several articles are almost side-by-side comparisons between different
(German, American, Dutch, etc.) approaches to the same problem.
Very nice new publication.
- Advanced
Aquarist Online A great online monthly publication from
reefs.org.
I've learned a lot from Randy Holmes-Farley's chemistry column.
